Rhodesia: African Transcontinental Telegraph Company Limited, £1 shares, 189[3], #A39, black. Formed by Cecil Rhodes in 1892 to lay a cable from Salisbury to Bandawe and then on to Abercorn and through German territory to Lake Tanganyika. The company suffered from high costs of transport and elephants kept pushing over their poles, despite them being made of iron. Forced into bankruptcy in 1911 and taken over jointly by the Nyasaland Company and the Northern Rhodesian government. A few edge splits and minor damage at edges otherwise F- VF and very rare.
