John Palmer of Bath (1742–1818) was a theatre owner, but is more famously remembered for the creation of British mail coaches system, the forerunner to the Post Office from the late 18th century. Ironically, Dick Turpin one of the most notorious 18th Century highwaymen to hold up stagecoaches and cause the need for such reforms used the alias John Palmer.
