Farmers Bank of Virginia, [5] shares, Richmond 18[47], #11133, signed by William Macfarland as President, simple black printing, embossed seal. William Hamilton Macfarland, 1799-1872, lawyer and banker. Member of Virginia State legislature, 1822-24 and again 1830-31, delegate to Virginia secession convention in 1861. Delegate from Virginia to the Confederate Provisional Congress in 1861-62. Counsel to Jefferson Davis during his trial for treason. The bank was founded in 1812 and liquidated in 1867under the rules of the Reconstruction Government. VF and scarce.
