Philadelphia and Southern Mail Steamship Company, $250 shares, 186[8], #579, steamship in centre, black, adhesive revenue stamp. Formed in 1866 to re-establish routes from the city to Southern ports after the Civil War. Initially it purchased government surplus wooden vessels but later ordered iron ships. It was bankrupt by 1880 due to competition from the Railroads. VF and rare.
