Second Street Cable Rail Road Co., Los Angeles, $50 shares, 188[5], #9, for a total of 4936 shares, almost half of the capital, issued to Walter S. Newhall and signed by him on the reverse, attractive vignette of tramcars, black. Walter Scott Newhall, 1860-1906, son of California pioneer, Henry Newhall (The town of Newhall north of Los Angeles was named after him), president of the California Club, built 21 Chester Place which was used in the TV series the Adams Family as the spooky mansion. Also signed by Edward A. Hall as President and H.C.Witmer as secretary, who, with Newhall, formed the Los Angeles Improvement Company mainly to develop the outskirts of the city. To aid the developement this cable line was built to the 900 acres of Crown Hill which had just been purchased by the Land company. The line was extremely successful and all the land lots were sold within 18 months. Cancelled with residue of counterfoil on reverse, toned but VF and rare.
