Note: De La Rue submitted designs for a general keyplate design but pointed out to the Crown Agents that this meant dropping the proposal for a larger £1 value. Apparently De La Rue misinterpreted the Crown Agents instructions and were then asked to quote for a design similar to the existing 1/- value under the overprint system of stamps.
