Amban Mail
1904 Official I-chang cover from Lhasa Amban Yuutai to his predecessor, Yugang to Sichuan in Chamdo, who was on his way back home; with the three handstruck Grand Seal of the Lhasa Amban in red. There are two typical horizontal folds. fresh and in a good state of preservation.


Soon after the new Amban took office, he was faced with the British invasion into Tibet. Both Ambans were later punished for their inability to organise an effective defence against the British. A delightful and rare cover and is the only recorded Official Chinese mail related to the expedition in private hands. Photo

1904年由拉薩駐劄大臣寄給其前任官函, 昌都玉崗到四川, 他正回家途中. 蓋三枚拉薩駐劄大臣紅色印章, 封雖有摺, 但保存良好. 新駐箚大臣上任後不久,就面臨英國入侵西藏的問題, 兩位駐箚大臣後來都因無法組織有效防禦英國人而受到懲罰. 一個令人愉快和罕見的官封, 也是唯一記錄在私人手中的與這次探險有關的官方中文郵件.
