1846 (23 April) entire letter to Boulogne endorsed Paid, with Hastings curved "paid"/1d. with the "1d." deleted, red "pd" in oval and manuscript "5/5/10" indicating 5d. to Britain, 5d. to France = 10d., arrival datestamp; fine. Believed to be the only recorded example of the Hastings 1d. U.P.P. handstamp being modified for overseas postage. Photo
