(x) China 1900, 1 clasp, Relief of Pekin (3240 Pte. R. Roberts. 2nd Rl: Welsh Fus:), slightly bruised edge, good very fine

Robert Roberts was born at Bangor, Caernarvonshire in 1870. He joined the Royal Welsh Fusiliers on the 7 July 1891 at the age of twenty one in Wrexham. He served four years in India from 1893-97 with the 1st Battalion before being transferred to the 2nd Battalion in 1898 prior to their deployment in China. The Battalion served with the allied expeditionary force which advanced through China to relieve the Legations in Peking. They fought at the battle of Tientsin alongside the American Marines and then took part in the relief of Peking itself.
