Volunteer Force Long Service Medal (India & the Colonies), G.V.R. (Pte. W. Hickman, 2-B. B. & C. I. Ry. R., A.F.I.), impressed naming, edge bruise, nearly extremely fine

William Hickman was born on 14 November 1881 at Abingdon, Berkshire and was a Railway Engine Stoker at Slough in 1901. Moving to India, he entered the Bombay, Baroda & Central India Railway Rifles in 1907 and had advanced to a Locomotive Inspector at Jaipur by 1920. He was awarded his Medal in 1927 (Army Order 570 refers) and appears to have left India in 1936, having previously had positions at the Abu Road, Rajputana, Mhow and Kasganj. He died on 24 January 1963 at Slough; sold with copied details.
