The group of five miniature dress medals attributed to Surgeon-General H. H. Massy, Indian Army, who was Surgeon of the 17th Lancers in Crimea, when he would have tended the wounded after the Charge of the Light Brigade; and Surgeon of the 2nd Dragoon Guards during the Indian Mutiny

The Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Military Division, Companion's Badge, gold and enamel with top riband bar; Crimea 1854-56, 4 clasps, Alma, Balaklava, Inkermann, Sebastopol; Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 1 clasp, Lucknow; Turkish Crimea 1855; Turkey, Ottoman Empire, Order of the Medjidie, Badge, silver, enamel and gold centre, gold top riband bar, the campaign medals mounted as worn, good very fine (5)

Hampden Hugh Massy was appointed Assistant Surgeon in November 1844. His entry in the Army List upon retirement states:

'Served as Assistant Surgeon of the 31st Regiment towards the end of the Sutlej campaign in 1846. Served in the Eastern Campaign of 1854-56 as Surgeon of the 17th Lancers, including the affairs of Bulganak and McKenzies Farm, battles of Alma, Balaklava, Inkermann and Tchernaya and siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with four clasps, 5th Class Medjidie and Turkish Medal). Was recommended for promotion to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Hospitals for service in the Field by General Sir William Codrington. Served as Surgeon of the 2nd Dragoon Guards in the Indian Campaign of 1858-59, including the siege and capture of of Lucknow, action at Koorsee and Trans-Gorga affairs at Bungaon (Medal with clasp). Acted as Principal Medical Officer with Brigadier Barker's Column in the campaign in Oude.'

Massy gave evidence during the McNeill-Tulloch Commission of Enquiry, was made C.B. in 1869 and died at Bournemouth on 27 September 1895.
