William Bara Chairisa enlisted in the British South Africa Police towards the end of the Second World War so qualified for the War Medal 1939-45. This was followed in 1963 with the award of the Colonial Police Long Service Medal (The Southern Rhodesia Government Gazette, 7 June 1963, Vol XLI, No 24, Page 543, refers). In 1970 the award of the Rhodesia General Service Medal was announced in a Supplement to Force Orders on 5 February 1970. The following year he was presented with a second Long Service Medal which was published in The Rhodesia Government Gazette - Extraordinary, 12 Jul 1971, Vol XLIX, No 32, Page 830. His final award which was given shortly before he retired was the Police Meritorious Service Medal (The Rhodesia Government Gazette, 11 Feb 1972, Vol L, No 6, Page 139, refers). The fact the group was not remounted to include this medal is a possible sign that he may have retired shortly after he received this award and never got around, or saw reason, to re-mount the group. There is a picture of Chirisa in The Outpost of October 1964 and February 1973.

With thanks to Paul Brewster in researching the career of the recipient.
