Four: Flight Lieutenant J. G. Pittock, Royal Air Force, who flew 22 Ops during the Second World War

Jack Howard Pittock was born on 3 January 1916 at Folkestone and lived at Lyminge, Kent, had worked for the Crown Agents for the Colonies before the Second World War. He served as a Leading Aircraftman (No. 776000) before being commissioned Pilot Officer (No. 122818) and flew his first sortie as 2nd Pilot on Wellington 9700 of No. 99 Squadron over Boulogne on 12 August 1941. Four days later, he flew for Duisberg and noted:

'V. Heavy A.A. & S./Lights. P. Wing & fuselage holed.'

September brought further hot action, with 'amazing amount of flak' over Stettin on 19 September. He flew his first sortie as Pilot on 20 October in Wellington 8958 over Kiel, dropping a 4000lb bomb on their third run over the target. Whilst on a raid over Wilhemshaven on 10 January 1942, they faced heavy flak, suffered three attacks by night fighters and claimed one damaged. Pittock flew a total of 22 Ops and his final entry in his Log Book on 14 September 1947, whilst attempting to gain his Civil Pilot's License, which was issued on 11 October 1947 (No. 27212); sold together with his two Flying Log Books, with complete entries, first with damaged and loose spine, Civil Pilot's License, two RAF Identity cards, four flight maps, Royal Air Force Service and Release Book and photograph of his wedding day.
