Henry (Harry) Arthur Piggin was born in 1880 at Long Eaton Derbyshire. He enlisted in 2nd Battalion, Brabant's Horse on 15 December 1899 in Cape Town and was discharged on 26 February 1902 in Cape Town, having also served as Regimental Quartermaster-Sergeant to Kitchener's Fighting Scouts, into which unit he transferred on 11 May 1901.

During the Great War he served in France during 1915 and was attached to the 1st North Midland Field Ambulance.

His brother, Frederic Williams Piggin, was severely wounded at Wepener during the Boer War and had earned himself a Military Cross before being lost when the Leasowe Castle was torpedoed.

Henry married Kathleen Cooper in September 1926 and became a riding instructor and horse dealer in Repton, Derbyshire. He died on 14 December 1961 (https://www.angloboerwar.com/forum/5-medals-and-awards/6805-qsas-with-the-clasp-wepener?start=273, refers).
