O.B.E. London Gazette 3 December 1919:

'For valuable services in the Archangel area of the White Sea.'

Robert Hunter McGiffin served during the Great War at the rank of Surgeon Lieutenant-Commander and by the time of the Second World War was in command of the Royal Marine Sick Quarters at Exmouth. He died on 8 January 1961 at The Hospital, Claremont Grove, Exmouth. His home was at 20 Archery Square, Walmer, effects totalled £18,972.
