William Milne lived and worked on the Oakfield Estate, Mortimer, Berkshire. He died at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, the following featured in a local newspaper:

'Mr Milne, who was 56, had lived at Englefield for the past four years, being previously employed by the late Mr Tyser at Oakfield Park, where he lived. His gallantry during the war, when he won the Military Medal and Bar, did not go unrecognised at his funeral. As the cortege entered the church the ex-Service men of the Englefield and Theale British Legion, and the Bradfield British Legion lined the pathway, and with lowered standards paid their last tribute to a gallant comrade.'
