Japanese Post Office: 1896 (26 Nov.) envelope made of wood to U.S.A. "c/o U.S. Consul, Shanghai" bearing first issue 2c. and 4c. tied by the 29mm double-circle "chinkiang/postal service" c.d.s. with Japan Silver Wedding 5s. blue tied by the Chinkiang c.d.s and I.J.P.O. Shanghai c.d.s. (28.11) and, on the reverse, Shanghai Local Post (27.11), part Vancouver (15.12) and Buffalo arrival (21.12). The rate is for registration but seems to have been forwarded by ordinary mail (there is the possibility that a label has fallen off). Some light ageing. Photo
