1894 (12 Aug.) Municipal Council envelope to Gunzburg in Shanghai bearing a superb strike of the boxed "PAID" handstamp in black and, on the reverse, the large 38mm "chinkiang/postal service" c.d.s., Shanghai Local Post c.d.s. (13.8) in blue and the postman's pencil delivery characters. Fresh and fine.


The Chinkiang Local Post opened on 6th August 1894 and this is believed to be the earliest example of the Paid handstamp and Postal Service c.d.s. Photo
