Note: At both the Battles of Firket and Hafir Lieut Cator reverted from technical to military duty, being made a Special Service Officer "galloper" to brigade commander. Cator was later sent to Murrat Wells to explore south and set out to ride across the Dervish front, eventually arriving at the Nile at Birti in the Fourth Cataract. This long journey sapped his strength and he fell a victim to enteric fever and died at Wadi Halfa on 21 February
