Early Letters and Handstamps
1811 (18 Sept.) entire letter to London, rated "1/-" and showing, on reverse, Ship Letter and arrival datestamp. The contents include an interesting passage about the loss of the Governor, Col. Manchester, on a ship that disappeared, and how his successor, a Mr. Bruce, had since died and the present Governor was a Mr. Seaton. However, he was with Lord Minto on the expedition against Java, held by the Dutch, and the acting Governor was a Mr. Phillip. A rare early letter. Photo
