1893 (Dec.) stampless, opened-out envelope from Shanghai to Messrs Fergusson & Co. bearing a fine strike of the Chefoo "to pay" handstamp in blue with manuscript "1ct" written in pencil and, on the reverse, a faint strike of Shanghai Local Post c.d.s. with associated "O" in circle examiner's mark with a good strike of "chefoo/local post" dated oval in bright blue (17.12); clean and fine.

A rare cover, only three examples of this postage due handstamp have been recorded. Photo

Note that G.K. Fergusson, a partner of the local branch of Cornabe & Co. and also the postmaster of the Wei Hai Wei Courier Post, signing his name on the back of the first issue stamps


1893年12月上海寄煙台無貼票封, 於煙台蓋補費戳"TO PAY", 戳為藍色, 旁鉛筆寫"1ct", 即需補郵票一分, 封背蓋較模糊的上海工部日戳, 封邊信蓋圓圈"O"印, 12月17日銷㰐圓型藍色煙台到達戳; 罕見的煙台書信館補費戳實寄封, 存世只有三件. 難得保存良好. 源流: 1983年10月Charles Dougan; 另外收信んG.K. Fergusson是Cornabe & Co.煙台分店的合伙人, 同時亦為威海䘙跑差郵政局總辦, 簽其名於第一次發行郵票的背面.
