1897 (27 Jan.) envelope and letter from Mrs L.S. Neal in Chinanfu to Shanghai bearing 1c. red tied by the double-circle c.d.s. in deep blue with a second strike on the reverse along with Shanghai Local Post c.d.s. (29.1) and postman's delivery notation in pencil. The letter gives thanks for the gift of two dolls to the writer's daughter. Fine and very late use before the closure of the Local Post a few days later. Photo

James Boyd Neal (M 1883) served as editor of the China Medical Journal, president of the China Medical Missionary Association, and president of the School of Medicine of the Shantung Christian University. Neal was decorated for his work during northern China’s 1912 outbreak of pneumonic plague.


1897年1月27日煙台寄上海封， 內付Mrs. L.S. Neal ( wife of James Boyd Neal) 寫於濟南原函， 貼紅色一分票， 銷深藍色煙台雙圈日戳， 封背蓋一枚煙台相同日戳及1月29日黑色上海工部到達日戳， 另有郵務員手寫鉛筆記號. 此函寄於煙台書信館關閉之僅數天(2月2日)前， 為極晚期使用例. 聶會東James Boyd Neal (1855-1925) 是當年中國醫學雜誌編輯， 中國基督醫學會主席及濟南華美醫學院建立人. 他在1912年於中國北方爆發鼠疫期間， 因出色工作而獲得勛章.
