Sir Thomas Osborne
c.1672 Treasury order to pay Sir Thomas Osborn Bart as sole Treasurer of the Navy £60,000 as part of £600,000 "by way of Inprest and upon Accompt" for the use of the Navy and its victualling between 8th March 1672-73. Signed "Clifford" and "J Duncombe". Subscribed with instructions for both Sir George Downing and Sir William Doyly to pay £20,000 out of the loan by George Blackbourne for the Navy. Subscription signed "Rob Long". A good group of signatures with relevance to the Stop of the Exchequer and the Anglo-Dutch wars. Photo

Order probably issued very shortly after the lifting of the Stop of the Exchequer as part of the great sums owed to the Navy for their efforts in the Anglo-Dutch wars which were to continue.
