Teller's Bill
1670, two Teller's bills for the collection of tax for the King's subscription. The first being received from John Colvile as part of a loan from the farmers of Customs and Subsidies of £16,000, the second being received from Sir John Wolstenholme, Sir John Shaw and Sir Robert Wvyner Baronets, Sir Edmund Turnour Knight, Edward Backwell and Francis Millington for £270 as part of payment due from the farm. Both signed "Jo Loving". Bills written out on short, wide pieces of paper, folded vertically down the middle with the top and bottom punctured by regular and small holes.

The role of the 'farmers' mentioned above was to collect tax and make payments of regular sums to the government. Whatever tax they collected over a set sum was their profit. These men became extremely prominent and powerful figures in finance as goldsmiths and bankers. All suffered badly after the Stop of the Exchequer.
