William I, 'the Conqueror' (1066-87), Penny, Two Stars type, Winchester, Leofweald, 1.30g, 6h, + þillem rex iiii•i , legend starts at 12 o'clock, crowned and draped bust facing, star over each shoulder, rev. + lfold on þincesi, cross bottonée over pellet-tipped quadrilateral (cf. Lawrence (1903), 59b ; BMC V; N.845; S.1254), flan roughness between 2 and 4 o'clock and striking weakness in parts, otherwise about very fine, the reverse better still, the moneyer signature unusual and unrepresented on EMC, scarce thus
