Harold Kay died on 16 October 1943 aged 32, whilst serving with the 46th Recce. Regiment, Reconnaissance Corps, R.A.C., in Italy. The son of Joseph Hall Kay and Lena Kay and husband of Hilda Kay of Shipley, Yorkshire, he is buried at Naples War Cemetery. His headstone bears the inscription:

'My heart is sore and waits in vain, but I know some day we'll meet again. Hilda.'
