Auction: 18054 - The 'Hermione' Collection of France, 1849-1950
1849-50 First Issue
40c. blue, never issued, an exceptional example unused without gum as for the very few examples recorded, in a delicate shade and fabulously margined, exhibiting a good portion of the sheet at right with the other margins being marvelously large and well balanced, featuring clarity of impression. This unissued stamp was devised for the projected change of colour of 9 March 1849. Pin hole in sheet margin of no significance, superb in every respect, in a magnificent condition for the demanding collector of high quality, which must be considerably appreciated in a stamp of this extreme rarity and high significance. Spink Maury 8b, 'RR'. Photo
