Auction: 18048 - The Williams Collection Part III - Norman Coins
Lot: 439
(x) Stephen (1135-54), Penny, 1.06g, uncertain issue, probably Durham, Fobund,
DNW auction 86, 16 June 2010, lot 927
The previous catalogue notes 'The annulets on the reverse suggest that this is an ecclesiastical issue like the unique cut halfpenny of William Cumming, Bishop of Durham in the early 1140s. The Early Medieval Corpus lists four coins of this type but none with mullets in the reverse legend - a variety which does not seem to have been previously noted. EMC2012.0280 appears to be from the same obverse dies as the current specimen.'
