(x) Stephen (1135-54), Penny, 1.14g, Cross Moline ('Watford') type, Bristol, Jordan, crowned and diademed bust right, holding sceptre in right hand, local dies, small bust with pointed nose, small bar across base of sceptre, rev. : ior[dan : br]i, cross moline, fleur in each angle (cf. Mack 4 - but the moneyer not yet known; Welsh Hoards, Coed-y-Wenaullt 2 same dies; N.873; S.1278), legends mostly flat, otherwise very fine, believed to be one of only two known specimens

Jordan or Gurdan had an interesting career, striking first this local dies coinage in the name of Stephen, then striking coins of the same type using a deliberately obliterated obverse die, and finally striking Angevin coins in the name of Matilda (see Welsh Hoards p. 45).
