Engraved Definitives of 1913-14
Harrison Die Proofs
1d. in black on yellowish wove paper (101x123mm.), some light peripheral creasing otherwise fine. Extremely rare, four examples recorded. BW 59DP(1)A, $35,000. Photo

Note: Of the four examples recorded in black, two accompanied the order sent by the Treasury to the Australian High Commission for the preparation of the 1d. letterpress die. One of these, endorsed "Original design", went to Messers. Perkins, Bacon & Co. and subsequently came onto the market; this proof was in a collection stolen in 1984, and its present status is uncertain. The other proof remains in the National Archives of Australia. A further proof in black was in the estate of Sir Harry Brown, former Director-General of Posts & Telegraphs, and is now in the R.T.P. Chapman collection, part of the Australia Post archival collection.
