Two Shillings Brown
2/- brown, a top right corner pair with interpanneau margin at left, variety imperforate on three sides, well-centred and with large part original gum, very good colour, a few very minor black marks on reverse. Most desirable and one of Australia's greatest rarities. B.P.A. Certificate (2012). S.G. 41a, £110,000; BW 37b, $100,000. Photo

Note: One sheet from Plate 2 showing the top row imperforate except at foot was discovered in Adelaide in 1920. The strip of twelve errors was divided into four pairs and a strip of three; the twelfth stamp was lost. One pair is in the Royal Collection, and another in the R.T.P. Chapman collection, now part of the Australia Post archival collection. A third pair was in a collection stolen in 1984 and has not been seen since. The strip of three (ex Colonel Harrie Evans) has since been divided into a pair (ex Gray) and a single.
