Fourth British Occupation (May 1815 - Aug. 1816)
1815 (15 June) entire letter from St. Pierre to Paris and redirected, rated "1/2" in red and charged "12" (decimes) and "14" (redirection), showing straight-line "angleterre" h.s. and, on reverse, London transit datestamp. The writer mentions:- "The British troops under General Leigh have taken Martinique last week. The white flags fly constantly". Photo

Note: When Napoleon escaped from Elba in March 1815, the Royalist faction on the island invited British troops under the command of Sir James Leith, Governor of Barbados, to return to the island to prevent any trouble. The landed on the 5th June and stayed until August 1816.
