1796 (12 June) entire letter from an Officer at St. Lucia to London, rated "1/-" (deleted) and "1/6", showing fine straight-line "martinique" h.s. (Jamet Type 4) with arrival datestamp (16.8) on reverse; the entire with tear at top of face panel and piece missing from upper flap, both caused through opening. The writer mentions:- arrived yesterday, barracks torn to pieces by shot and shell - violent rains. Sir Ralph Abercromby left five regiments under command of Brig. General Sir John Moore of the 51st.
