The rare italic "z" variety in position R.10/1, found in the 2½a. value only, can be assigned to Setting 4 by reference to the normal second "z", which occurred in that setting in R.10/2, the nine rows above having a small second "z" (eight) or a tall second "z" (one)

2½a. yellow-green lower left corner marginal horizontal pair, the left-hand stamp variety italic second "z" in R.10/1, cancelled with January 1897 datestamp; fine. Very rare thus. B.P.A. Certificate (2018). S.G. 8/o, £650+. Photo
