1850 (3 Apr.) entire letter from Pietermaritzburg, Natal, to London, marked "prepaid 8d" in red ink (deleted) and rated "1/-", showing fine double-lined oval "general post office/Crown/cape town" (Type 3; crossed by horizontal filing crease) with arrival datestamp on reverse. A good example of the Pietmaritzburg - Colenso overland route instead of the more commonly used sea route from Durban to Cape Town. Photo
