(x) A superb grade selection of the Marshall Hole series, Bulawayo, comprising 3D (2), type B I, B II, 6D (2), type B II and C II, 1 shilling (2), type A II and D II, 2 shillings, type A II, 2/6, type A II, 10 shillings, type A II, all are on thick card with purple handstamp and stamp attattached . text reads 'THE CIVIL COMMISSIONER BULAWAYO PLEASE PAY IN CASH TO THE PERSON PRESENTING THIS CARD THE FACE VALUE OF THE STAMP AFFIXED THERETO IF PRESENTED ON OR AFTER 1st AUGUST 1900'
(Pick S662c, d, 664b, f, 665b, d, 666b, 667b, 670b), The Marshall Hole notes were the brainchild of the Matabeleland Government Secretary, Hugh Marshall Hole, who recommended the use of stamps attached to card to ameliorate the lack of specie due to the Anglo-Boer War and the subsequent shortage of regular currency. The Marshall Hole currency was gazetted on 7th April 1900. The group is in an excellent state of presentation and presents a wonderful opporunity to acquire notes of this historical series. (9)
