1943 (20 Sept.) a large envelope registered to Chengtu with a large and colourful array of 1942 overprinted air stamps affixed on both sides with Peking print 15c. (4), 30c. (4), 45c. (4), 60c. (4), $1 (4) and H.K. print 25c. (8), 30c. (4) and 50c. (4) making a total of $15.80, all tied by Tihwa (Urumtsi) c.d.s., another strike in purple for censorship and fine Chengtu arrival (8.10); the address side is marked with the manuscript registration number and the weight "110g". Some soiling, nevertheless an important cover which appears to have been accepted at the old rates (prior to 1st June) of postage $3, registration $1 and airmail of $1 per 10 g ($11). The sender was Sinkiang District Head Post Office, so this official mail should have applied the correct postage. Photo
