Sharasume
1915 (13 July) opened-out red band envelope registered to Peking bearing pair of Arms 10k. tied by good strikes of type S1 "sharasume mongiliya" with further strikes alongside and on the reverse, with registration label type SR1, with bilingual Harbin transit c.d.s. (3.9) and Peking English/Chinese arrival c.d.s. (6.9). An interesting cover routed by the Trans-Siberian Railway. This is believed to be the earliest recorded cover from this post office and is offered with its original letter. Photo

Sharasume is in the northernmost part of Sinkiang. However, Russia regarded the Altay region as part of Mongolia, hence the inscription in the datestamp. The Russian Consulate was opened in 1911 and the Post Office noted in the 1914 Post Office Guide. The Chinese Post Office recognised Sharasume as being part of Sinkiang. However, this move was not recognised by the Mongolian Republic until 1924
