1918 (17 May) insured letter (500 roubles) to Tientsin bearing Arms 20k. pair and 7r. tied by good strikes of the type Ka-2b c.d.s. with a further strike alongside; addressed in Chinese and Russian, the reverse bears the Kashgar despatch c.d.s. (6.6), a considerable delay after acceptance. Five red wax seals have been excised from the back of the envelope. A good franking used during the inflation period. The rate is 7r.40. Note the despatch date is about three weeks after acceptance. Photo

There is incertaintly about the postage rates around this period due to the effects of the World War and the Russian Revolution. This was also the reason for such delays in the transmission of the mails. There were a lot more insured letter being sent at this time from Russian forces in the area, taking advantage of the opportunity to purchase many goods.
