Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., E.VII.R (161690 James Rogers, Car. Mate., H.M.S. Pandora.), very fine

James Rogers was born at Pill, Louth, Wales, on 17 March 1869. Entering the Royal Navy aged 12 years, he first served as shipwright aboard H.M.S. Asia, an 84-gun second rate ship of the line which was flagship of Admiral Sir Edward Codrington, G.C.B., F.R.S., at the Battle of Navarino in 1827. Over a long and successful career Rogers would go on to serve in more than 20 ships and shore establishments, finishing at Excellent, the Portsmouth Gunnery School, before being pensioned ashore on 19 October 1914; sold with copied service record.
