De Magistris Collection Part IV
Municipal Stamps
Extraordinary lifetime collection in five large volumes, featuring over 32,000 different issues, neatly mounted and arranged A-Z over each book, including a myriad of proofs and unissued values, with additional "appendix" pages of sheets, blocks and multiples, unidentified/unlisted values and cinderella material. The collection ranks amongst the finest ever formed of these charming and curious issues, with the majority pre-1900, in attractive, elaborate and colourful designs usually featuring the crest of the town or village in question, with some closely related to postal issues from the same time period. Many originate from settlements with tiny populations making both their usage and survival remarkably rare. The duties charged by each issue are incredibly broad and include everything from the usual legal and tax levies; to charity issues for helping returning P.O.W.s, restoring the town's belfry and even reburial! With detailed and free online catalogue available listing these issues in detail, the collection is remarkably accessible and ripe for further study. Superb. Photo
