1927 Series of essays (3) for 1000r. value comprising hand-painted essay in vermilion around an embossed proof of crown and border, inset on thick card (100x110mm), endorsed on reverse "Design for the impressed Duty Die approved by Govt. of Ceylon", secondly nine proposed outer shapes for embossed impressions on glazed card, each annotated in manuscript for values between "50c." and "R500", finally a photographic proof of the hand-painted 1000r. essay endorsed "duplicate" at upper right. A fine archival record of this elusive stamp with a face value so high it has no record of use. Photo for hand painted essay.
