1829 Red and black label, with "whiting patentee" imprint, tied to large piece of grey-blue card packaging (44x33cm) by crowned "paper/ chadon/ maker" three line cancellation, the piece bearing wonderful ornate maker's label "Superfine Foolscap/ Smith & Allnutt, Maidstone/ Kent" with coat of arms at top, the reverse endorsed "By Coach, 15 Aug 1826" and addressed to "Mr Thomas Dalby, Castle Donington, Leicestershire". Folds running through label, with one surface scuff and a peripheral tear, nevertheless a charming piece of social history which displays beautifully.
