Malayan Airmails
Crash Mail
1929 (Oct.) envelope registered from Canada to Brunei, carried by the Flying-boat "City of Alexandria" which when landing at Mersa Matruh (Egypt) harbour for refuelling it struck a buoy and crashed. The mail was then transferred to the "City of Athens" which had difficulty in taking off, due to unfavourable wind, and ran into a reef and ripped the bottom off the hull. The envelope shows framed "damaged during/transit by air" in violet and, on reverse, various transit datestamps including Singapore (2.12) and Brunei (13.12). The earliest crash cover of Malaya.
