1936 (10 Feb.) envelope (a few minor tone spots) from Singapore to Sandakan, re-addressed to England and again locally, marked "By Courtesy Airflight RAF, S'pore - Japan", and franked with Straits 5c. "Don't be Vague/Ask for/Haig" machine datestamp in red and showing, on reverse, Sandakan datestamps of 21 and 24 February. This is the only known cover being collected or delivered at Kudat where it was taken by boat to Sandakan. Photo

Note: Three Singapore III Flying-boats of No. 205 Squadron, led by Air Commodore Sydney Smith, paid a goodwill visit to Japan embracing Kuching, Kudat, Manila, Hong Kong, Amoy, Shanghai, Kagoshima and Tokyo. Due to a military coup in Japan the flight finished in Shanghai and the visit was called off.
