The RAF Survey Flights
1933 Kuching - Singapore Flight
1933 (12 May) envelope registered and flown on the return flight from Kuching to Singapore, marked "RAF Flying-boat GEZCD", franked at 21c., showing "by air mail" label, registration handstamp, framed "unclaimed" and red crayon "Retour" with, on reverse, Singapore (13.5) and Kuching (22.5) datestamps; the envelope with small repaired tear and staining at left. Note: On April 19th three RAF Southampton Flying-boats, S1419, S1420 and S1151, flew from Seletar to inspect landing sites in Borneo. The left Kuching on April 21st, calling at Bintulu, Miri, Brunei, Kudat and arriving at Sandakan on April 26th. The return flight started the next day, following the same route, but an eight day stay at Sibu to carry out a geological survey, delayed their return to Kuching until 11th May. A small mail was carried on their return flight from Kuching to Selatar on May 13th. No extra charge was made for mail carried by the RAF after the end of 1931.
