Other Carriers In Conjunction With Cunard
Cunard operated throughout the period from 1827-1877 and beyond. There were two major changes in Cunard's relationship with other carriers. The first was the RMSP's abandonment of her British stops after 1850. The other was Cunard's loss of her transatlantic contract to Inman in 1868. These changes made the Cunard Bermuda-Halifax connection more important

Cunard and The Quebec & Gulf Ports Steamship Company
This line offered direct service between Bermuda and return, whereas Cunard did not, In 1869 after the Inman Line lost the contract, Cunard again carried transatlantic mail
1872 (20 Dec.) envelope from Hamilton "Via New York via Magnolia" to London, bearing 1865 1d. rose-red and 6d. dull purple sharing indistinct numeral with Bermuda Paid (P4) at left and Hamilton datestamp (H1) below, London Paid datestamp (6.1) at lower left; a few minor tones, otherwise fine and rare, being the only trip by this vessel. Note: This and the following two lots were carried on the only trip of the "Magnolia". The contract with "San Francisco" had been terminated by her owners after her 27 November voyage. The "Magnolia" substituted for the "San Francisco" by W.H. Webb to give time for reorganisation of the service. She left Bermuda on 21 December arriving in New York on 25 December, thence per Inman "City of Paris". Webb then broke his contract again, which was cancelled by the British Government
