Other Carriers In Conjunction With Cunard
Cunard operated throughout the period from 1827-1877 and beyond. There were two major changes in Cunard's relationship with other carriers. The first was the RMSP's abandonment of her British stops after 1850. The other was Cunard's loss of her transatlantic contract to Inman in 1868. These changes made the Cunard Bermuda-Halifax connection more important

Cunard Vessels and RMSP Co. Within The Caribbean
1853 (4 Feb.) entire letter from Alexandria, Virginia to Capt. John Kendrink of the Schooner Pempero care of Messrs. Lucius, Dill & Co., Grenada, overland to New York, , per Cunard Petrel (last trip) to Bermuda and St. Thomas, thence per RMSP Great Western to Barbados and per Derwent to Grenada, rated "1/-" and "10" (U.S. internal rate, in pencil) and showing a good strike of the very rare "united-states/via-bermuda" handstamp (Misc 3), the reverse with St. George's (PM5 with "fe" in seriffed letters, font type as PM2), St. Thomas and Grenada (22.2) datestamps. The later of the two recorded examples of the United States via Bermuda transit handstamp. Photo

Note: The letter deals with the difficulty of preserving fish because of the scarcity and poor quality of salt supplies from various islands, including the Turks and Bonaire
