Other Carriers In Conjunction With Cunard
Cunard operated throughout the period from 1827-1877 and beyond. There were two major changes in Cunard's relationship with other carriers. The first was the RMSP's abandonment of her British stops after 1850. The other was Cunard's loss of her transatlantic contract to Inman in 1868. These changes made the Cunard Bermuda-Halifax connection more important
The following section illustrates the inter-relationships between Cunard, RMSP and other lines
Cunard Vessels and RMSP Co. To England
After 1850 the RMSP no longer stopped at Bermuda, servicing B.W.I. and Mexico directly. Covers originating in the Caribbean were carried by RMSP to St. Thomas and from there by Cunard to Bermuda or onward
1867 (25 June) envelope from St. George's "via St. Thomas & Southampton" to Scotland, per Cunard Alpha to St. Thomas and per RMSP Tasmanian to Southampton, bearing 1865 1/- green cancelled with superb "1" (K1) and equally fine datestamp (P5) alongside partly overstruck by London Paid datestamp (15.7), Glasgow (15.7) and Hellensburgh (16.7) datestamps on reverse; most attractive.
