On May 20, 1812 an official Post Office was established on the island for the first time. There were three official rate structures during the period
1d. Rate Period, Pre-Adhesive 1842-65 including The Postmasters Stamps
1844 (1 June) entire letter from William B. Perot to the Speaker and Members of the House of Assembly, being a summarised "Return shewing the number of Letters transmitted by the Penny Post at Hamilton to St. Georges from First June 1843 to 1st. June 1844", recording a total of some 3,795 items sent Inland and 3,769 by Packet Letter, signed "Wm. B. Perot", marked "Declared before me this 21st. June 1844 Wm. B. Smith" and subsequently published in the Royal Gazette on 25 June; fine and rare. Photo
